Our sweet little Sister Bear is on the cusp of two and all that comes along with it – growing independence, stronger opinions and a strong affinity for the words “No” and “Why?”.
Her vocabulary continues to grow and she now uses some two-word phrases. Her words and the way says them are very much “Hannah” – some of our favorites:
- “Not nice!” – said with a scowl and a shaking finger anytime someone gets in trouble.
- “Baba?” – Where’s my brother? She calls L.J. “baba” and it is officially the cutest ever. Well, almost. L.J. calls Hannah “Squirt” – so technically they’re in a dead heat for cutest ever.
- “Meow” – refers to a cat and also to her newest Wubbanub friend. Sounds like “m-owl”
- “Mine!” or “Hannah’s!” – anytime she’s claiming ownership to something or realizes her dinner is being plated. (Girlfriend can eat; don’t dare mess with her food)
- “Hi Mommy! Hi Daddy!” – Usually uttered in a set of three a.la. Sheldon Cooper and said very sweetly. It’s a term of endearment for her.
She can also repeat many animal names and sounds, say some of her ABCs and count to 9. She thinks 9 is the final number in the series (vs. 10) and says it with flair.
She asks “Why?” a lot. She doesn’t understand she’s asking a question; she just likes to sound of it. L.J. doesn’t understand she’s not asking a question and can often be heard saying, “I already told you why!” #CaptainLiteral
Hannah continues to be a good eater, often out-eating her brother at dinner. She loves to say the dinner blessing and as soon as she sits down she folds her hands and says “Amen!”
Her favorite food or beverage is apple juice, hands down. If she wants a glass (which is 24/7), she says “Apple Juice! Apple Juice!” in a sing-song voice complete with a little dance.
She loves to do/play anything L.J. is doing and is most definitely his little shadow. She copies everything he does. They simply adore each other!
Of course, now that she’s a little older and little more opinionated – they also sometimes annoy the snot out of each other. “Poke the bear” is alive and well at the Holmes house.
The newest “toy” in rotation are a few doll babies. Hannah loves her babies! She is a bit of a girly girl who loves dress up, shoes and “pretties” in her hair. The shoes though – Mike’s in trouble if our daughter likes shoes even half as much as her Mama does…and so far all signs are pointing to “yes”.
Markers are another favorite. They use markers at school (eyeroll…b/c now at home less-messy crayons are considered the worst) and she loves to color and draw with L.J. We’ve put an urgent plea in to Santa to please bring some Color Wonder markers for Christmas.
Hannah’s bedtime routine still involves lots of stories. Thank the good Lord we have been able to switch up the rotation and incorporate some new stories. All her “friends” (WubbaNubs) accompany her to bed, along with a baby or two. Most of her friends have lost half the paci at this point. She’s torn them and we’ve cut the tip off them for safety. Now she’s figured out she can stick her thumb through the hole and suck the paci via sucking her thumb. Gotta give her brownie points for that one…
Hannah continues to be an absolute delight and is a little spark that keeps our family on our toes and full of happy energy. She is a happy, loving toddler, mischievous and curious and just plain fun.
We love you, Hannah Bear!
