Party Like it’s 1996

We had a Goodwill drop off the other day, and when we do that we typically give Landon a dollar or two to pick out a book. In the spirit of putting people to work, he generally earns it for being helpful and/or assisting with a project.

He likes to go down the toy aisle first, and as we did that I saw an enormous bundle of what appeared to be Beanie Babies for $4.98. With vivid memories of the Beanie Baby craze, I was quite fascinated by this bundle and the peeks of the different animals.

I broke my “nothing stuffed comes home from Goodwill” rule and hauled my giant bundle up to the counter. We both left pleased as punch with the little (or, ahem, not little) treasures we found.

L.J. was beyond excited about the mystery of the bundle; it was basically like a giant surprise egg. We opened it up after lunch to find 40 – FORTY – pristine Beanie Babies.

They were clearly someone’s once-cherished collection, as each one was in brand-new condition and most had the little plastic tag covers. (Whew, no worries about bugs or other grossness…)

We all had fun discovering what animals were inside! And I discovered that Beanie Babies really are “valuable” because they have provided hours of entertainment over the past two weeks. Best $4.98 I’ve spent in a long time!
