Personality
I am more introverted; Mike is more extroverted. L.J. appears to be taking after his daddy! He is friendly and outgoing and will willingly share a smile with anyone who takes a minute to coax one out. He is busy – and oh my word is he curious. That is a trait he gets from mommy! He is starting to voice his opinions. He will play independently, but prefers to do so while someone else is just a few feet away.
Playtime
L.J. continues to be our little explorer and a busy little bee. Sometimes he is active and doing many different things (i.e. making a massive mess on his play blanket) and sometimes he is quiet and observant, but he is always doing something. He is very curious and it’s really interesting to watch him work to master new skills as part of that curiosity. He has started holding a toy or object out in front of him and studying it, and you can just see the wheels turning in his mind.
He has almost mastered sitting independently. He can do so for short periods of time, but if he moves his head too fast, down he goes! We are full-throttle into teething and he continues to put everything into his mouth. Sophie has been a frequent companion this month, as are his two little Vulli teethers.
New favorite toys this month are the Baby Einstein and Fisher Price roller balls, which he plays with constantly. (He also thoroughly enjoys pushing them off the Exersaucer.) He also loves his Fisher Price sorting bucket. He will dump the whole bucket out and then happily chew on the bucket.
Our bedtime story each night has become a bit more challenging because L.J. is now more interested in eating the book rather than listening to the story.
Eating
L.J. is in a very routine eating schedule, taking 6-7 ounces every 4 hours.
We also introduced food this month, and so far he has had:
- Bananas
- Pears
- Apples
- Sweet Potatoes
- Green Beans
- Peas
- Watermelon (in a mesh feeder)
He has liked everything so far except peas. Interestingly, he loves baby bananas, but does not like “real” bananas.
He loves – and I mean loves – his morning oatmeal. He smiles and makes “Mmmm!” sounds the entire time he’s eating it. Completely adorable.
We also introduced Gerber Puffs this month and he is a big fan. He’s a bit young for them, but we break them in half and he does fine. This is our go-to mealtime entertainment so mommy and daddy can eat!
Sleeping
Nothing new on the sleep front. He’s in bed by 7:45 and sleeps through the night. He cat-naps throughout the day. However, we were rewarded with some very long naps on vacation!
Milestones/Firsts
L.J. took two trips this month – Philadelphia and Hilton Head. First time on an airplane and first beach vacation!
He also sprouted two teeth! His two bottom teeth broke through right around July 1, when he was about a week shy of 7 months.
L.J. is on the move (sort of). He can now roll over both directions! July 14 was the first time I saw him roll over tummy-to-back, but he was working on it in his crib the week we were on vacation. He has started sleeping on his side in his crib, too.
Dear L.J.,
Seven months old! You are now closer to a year old than you are to your birth day. I recently looked back at a few video snippets from those early days and it’s amazing to see how much you have grown and changed! All those hours we spent snuggling you made an impression because you definitely know who mommy and daddy are. This month we received our first kisses from you and you are starting to grasp the concept of hugs. It is very sweet and getting a kiss from you is still rare enough that the lucky parent gets bragging rights for the rest of the night! Happy seven months baby boy – we love you!!
Love,
Mommy
LJ is progressing more and more each month. I can't wait to see him this weekend!
