L.J.’s First Thanksgiving

We enjoyed a quiet, relaxing Thanksgiving in Greenville this year. I commented to my mom that as fun as it can be to do a great big Thanksgiving, it’s equally nice to be able to come to the table in your lounge pants.

If you’re hoping for a Norman Rockwell-esque picture of our bountiful table, you are going to be disappointed. I didn’t really get any pictures! I’ll have to do better next year. And maybe next year L.J. won’t destroy his Turkey Day outfit by 10:00 in the morning. Hint, hint, buddy.

Of course, the big question is not whether or not I captured any photos but rather, “So what did L.J. eat for Thanksgiving?!” He ate just about everything on the table! Turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, green beans and pumpkin pie. He thought Thanksgiving was just about the coolest meal ever – I mean, we all know he loves to eat and here was the table loaded with more than a half dozen dishes. He enjoyed it all, but especially enjoyed the pumpkin pie.

In the spirit of transparency, I would like to record for posterity that if you feed your child Thanksgiving dinner, you should be prepared with a copious amount of diapers and wipes the next morning. And that’s all I’m going to say about that.

L.J. really was not himself during Thanksgiving week. He was fussy, cranky, irritable and threw a fit if I even though about leaving his side. We came to find out he had a double ear infection. Poor little guy! No wonder he was so out of sorts! He’s doing much better now that the antibiotics have kicked in.

There were several things he particularly enjoyed during Thanksgiving week, including a trip to the park to play on the swings and his little blue car. I absolutely love this shot I captured of L.J. enjoying the swings!

The little blue car was a favorite activity all week and one of the few things guaranteed to temporarily halt the crankies. He happily “drove” all around the long, wide hallways and loved honking the horn anytime the car turned or came across an obstacle. When he wasn’t being pushed in the car, it was most likely in crash position in the living room. He loved climbing on it like a jungle gym!

L.J. also loved knocking down elaborate block towers built by Grandpa! It kept us all entertained at length. We enjoyed coming up with new creations – and racing to build them before L.J. got to them – and L.J. liked knocking them to the ground. It was great fun for everyone!

One of my favorite memories of the week took place downtown. We were walking and came across a lady with the biggest Great Dane I have ever seen. Think the Clydesdale version of Great Danes. It turns out this handsome, gentle creature was a therapy dog. His name was Jonah. L.J. loves animals, so we turned the stroller so he could see the dog. Jonah realized L.J. was enjoying a bottle and was quite curious – he stuck his great big head right in L.J.’s stroller! L.J. thought it was great fun. He smiled and laughed, reaching out to pet Jonah’s great big head. Such a sweet moment and I wish I could have captured it on camera!

Mike was able to join us for part of the week and the two of us were able to go on a date night thanks to grandparent babysitters. It was so nice to get out and enjoy an adults-only dinner! We went to one of our favorite Greenville restaurants, The Lazy Goat. I also enjoyed a girls lunch with my mom and our friend Carrie. It was equally nice to get out with “just the girls”!

We so enjoy the time we get to spend in Greenville and are looking forward to our next visit!
