Insistent on a Sister

Several of L.J.’s friends at school are welcoming new little brothers and sisters into their families. (This is not a pregnancy announcement…) L.J. has been on the campaign trail for a sibling for a while, and these new arrivals have only added fuel to his fire. We’ve had quite a few conversations about this subject!

This recent conversation was one of my favorites; I was asking L.J. what he did at school that day.

L.J. – “Riley’s daddy pick-up. Riley has baby sister.”
Me – “Riley’s daddy picked him up and you got to see his baby sister?
L.J. – “Yes. Mommy get baby sister!”
Me – “Well, baby sisters take a while to arrive. Maybe soon we can get a baby sister.”
L.J. – “Mommy get Landon Didi.”
Me – “You know, we don’t get to choose. If Mommy has a baby it could be a baby brother or a baby sister.”
L.J. – “No, Mommy! Landon get baby sister!”
Me – “But wouldn’t a baby brother be nice, too?”
L.J. – “Mommy get Landon sister. Get Didi.”

Note: “Didi” is what Ra-Ra calls his baby sister. It’s an Indian word for sister. L.J. often uses the two interchangeably.
