We packed as much fun into Easter weekend as we possibly could! It was such a fun, sweet weekend for our little family.
Saturday morning we joined our friends at a community egg hunt. Held on a high school football field, booths and inflatables lined the track and the field itself was cordoned off for the egg hunt. It was a really nice event and L.J. and Alessia had a great time hunting eggs!
(Side note: This event was so well organized! The hunts were spaced out with preschoolers before lunch and grade-schoolers in the afternoon. It prevented crowd insanity and big kids trampling little ones.)
We got home and ate a quick lunch just in time to welcome Uncle J.T., Aunt Becky and Uncle Nick. L.J. was in seventh heaven seeing some of his favorite people and loved having all the attention focused squarely on him!
We made our traditional bunny cake for an Easter party later that evening, decorating by committee with the intent of using as much candy as possible to bring life to the cake. (Goal: Get the candy out of the house!)
He turned out pretty well for a last-minute dessert request using cobbled-together ingredients, including a watermelon cake mix and cookie icing.
Late in the afternoon, we headed down to Ra-Ra’s house for an Easter party. We sure do miss living right down the street from them! The weather was perfect and the boys had a great time playing in the yard.
We set up a little egg hunt for them and it was quite funny to watch. Ra-Ra opened up each egg and dumped it on the grass. L.J. shot each egg into his mouth like he hadn’t had food in days.
The boys also set up their own landscaping business. We commended their entrepreneurship; hopefully if they do this in their teen years we won’t have to referee who gets to use which lawn implement! #toddlerdrama
Sunday morning brought an Easter basket for L.J. and church for our family.
Yes, we attempted church again. It took 8 months after our last disastrous attempt. L.J. did far better than we expected in church, and about as well as can be expected for an active toddler boy. He made it through most of Mass but two-thirds of the way through he was quite done and took off running for the exit. At least he was quiet about it.
I have no doubt a big part of our success involved a continuous snack train from mommy’s purse and a frequently-whispered promise of a trip to the playground if he behaved. Oh, and we totally called it “Chapel” the entire time because he goes to chapel at school. The people behind us probably thought we were the Protestant branch of the family in town for Easter.
One step at a time, right?
Sunday afternoon we welcomed my friend Katie and her baby for Easter dinner (her husband got called into work, so we missed seeing him). It was great to see them and L.J. was so thrilled to see “baby” again! He was very, very curious about him and spent the next few days talking about what the baby did while he visited.
It was interesting to see how L.J. reacted to seeing baby A using his things – even though L.J. had no recollection of using them himself. At one point I got out a swaddle for Katie to use, and L.J. about had a fit. But on the other hand, he was so excited and proud to share his bouncy chair with the baby.
After dinner, Alessia and her parents joined us for dessert. Oh. My. Goodness. Ever see two 2-year olds hyped up on way too much sugar? They literally chased each other in laps around the first floor. We couldn’t do anything but sit there and laugh. It was hysterical. They had so much fun together – great way to end a fun weekend!
