Stats
Diaper Size: Size 3 in Huggies
Clothes: 12-month outfits and sleepers.
We moved up a size in diapers and a size in clothes this month. I packed away her swimsuits and keep peering longingly into her closet because she has so many adorable dresses waiting for cooler weather. Having a baby girl is a bit like having a baby doll to dress – it’s just so much fun! Fortunately our budget and her attending school keep my purchases in line. It goes without saying that she wears a worn hand-me-down to school and comes home clean as a whistle, but I put her in a cute dress or romper and she comes home looking like Picasso on a bender.
Personality
Hannah continues to be a sweet, happy baby. She’s turning into a little chatterbox! We have no idea what she’s saying, but she doesn’t seem to mind.
Mommy, Daddy and L.J. are her tribe and she lights up when she sees any of us, especially L.J. She thinks he can do no wrong, which is not exactly awesome when we’re trying to modify certain behaviors. It’s a little difficult to correct him when she’s laughing and encouraging him.
She is still opinionated and while she’s pretty content most of the time, she has quite the indignant little cry when she is displeased. She also gets really mad if Mike or I get up and even give the impression that we are leaving a room without her. Not happening on her watch…
Playtime
Hannah’s mastered sitting and has moved on (no pun intended) to actual movement. She’s working really hard at the mechanics, but still has as a way to go. I looked back and L.J. was rolling all over the place by 8 months. He didn’t crawl until almost 11 months, though. I’m curious to see when Hannah will achieve the movement milestone! (Not too curious though…it’s rather convenient having her stay where I put her.)
She enjoys playing on her play blanket, and musical toys are her favorite. Her playmat turns into a piano she can sit and play at, and that’s definitely one of her favorites. She also likes the yellow plastic bunny, stacking rings and the box of blocks – all things L.J. also enjoyed at her age. She is really smitten with L.J.’s green Rocky recycle truck (Paw Patrol). She dives for it if she sees it.
Hannah has a silly side and loves to take in the world upside down. She’ll arch her back and throw her head backward at any given opportunity. She is very active – always moving, looking around and in general watching what goes on around her.
Eating
Girlfriend likes to eat! She will grab for any food within her reach, glare at you if you eat in front of her and don’t give her something and gladly sit down for a meal (or snack) anytime one is offered.
If you’re looking for Hannah, simply follow the Cheerio trail that is inevitably left behind after any meal. She only eats in her high chair, yet we find Cheerios from one corner of the house to the other.
We mostly do baby-led weaning at home, giving her small chunks of food to eat instead of purees (which she gets at school). She likes both. I give her little bits of fruit or veggies, but also a lot of times what we’re eating. Spaghetti was a huge hit! She also likes cheese quesadillas.
At the pediatrician’s recommendation, we’ve been introducing allergenic foods and so far have had no issues. Eggs are fine as is peanut butter. Whew!
She is finally starting to phase out the 10 p.m. bottle. I’ll miss the sleepy snuggles, but am looking forward to being able to head to bed a little earlier rather than waiting up for that last bottle.
Sleeping
She’s a great little sleeper! We’ve had a little hiccup with going to bed in that now she demands a bottle before going down. Doesn’t matter if she just had one 30 minutes ago – if it’s bedtime, a bottle better be procured. I suppose I gave up 10 p.m. sleepy snuggles for 7:30 p.m. sleepy snuggles! They’re equally great.
Milestones/Firsts
First college football game!
First month without a doctor’s visit! Yes!!
(Surely there were more. I may have to come back and edit later!)
Dear Hannah,
There is so much you packaged up into a small person. Wonderful, amazing you. There are so many elements to your personality and I love that daddy and I know the nuances better than anyone else. You may not talk yet, but the looks you give speak volumes! You have a look for almost every feeling – from happy to irritated to sleepy. Your looks always make me smile, mostly because now I know how Nana and Poppa felt when I was a baby. I also had a dictionary’s worth of looks. (For the record, yours tend to be a bit…sunnier, let’s say…than most of mine…)
You give off a very calm, cool and collected vibe to people you meet. You quietly take it all in and make other mommies envious of how laid back you can be! I never would have guessed you’d turn out to be such a calm, happy baby when you were a newborn. Those first 10 weeks were tough!
I have a feeling mobility is right around the corner for you…and I also have the feeling you are going to be a bit more adventurous and curious than your brother was. There’s a whole big world for you to conquer, one milestone at a time.
Love,
Mommy
