Three has been a challenging age for the Holmes family. The adage “the days are long, but the years are short” rings very true for us. Some days are very long. L.J. often seems so “old” to us – he’s definitely not a baby any more, has perception and memory skills that belie his age, and his behavior sometimes makes us question whether he’s 3 or 13.
Yet I know I will look back on this sweet picture and in even just a few short years will think, “He was so little!” He is so peaceful and content in this photo and is surrounded by some of his favorite things.
This photo is a summation of L.J. at three and I love it for that. Always fire-something – pajamas, trucks, hats, Fireman Sam, “emergencies.” Books are always close by and the construction book is currently on nightly repeat. Favorite characters like Peppa. His beloved Baba and his Teddy. Appropriately, his Paw Patrol figures and his “guys” (rescue center heroes and vehicles) are squirreled away beneath the covers.
Sleep tight, L.J. And perhaps sleep in until sunrise tomorrow?
