18 Month Addendum

IMG_4468

I forgot that 18 months is the advent of some of toddlerhood’s more endearing features. Hannah’s half-birthday “gifts” include:

  • A newfound desire to do everything by herself. She must be the one to ask for help; otherwise, it is ruined. Whatever “it” happens to be at the moment.

  • Her first temper tantrums! Proper position is prone on the floor with foot kicking for emphasis. Activities most likely to provoke a tantrum include thwarting her efforts to throw books off the bookshelf and not letting her color with markers.

  • Increased cognitive abilities about where things live and how to access them. Guess who taught herself to use a step stool?

  • A koala-bear-like ability to wrap herself around me and fend off all attempts at extrication. Most likely to occur when I’m trying to make dinner and least likely to occur when I want to sit down on the couch for 5 minutes.

  • A new fear of noisy household appliances. My hair dryer and the vacuum cleaner are particularly fearsome.

Regardless, she’s as cute as ever. Did you see those teensy tiny Sperry’s?!? And even with a few toddler challenges, her feisty personality is still one of our most favorite things.
