L.J.’s Artwork

L.J. has become quite the prolific artist. We owe Mother Nature a few tree plantings for the amount of drawing paper that comes home daily!

Over the past few months, his drawings have evolved past the “scribble scrabble” stage to specific scenes, identifiable letters and coloring all the characters on a coloring page (vs. a coloring few elements here and there).

It’s been so interesting to watch this transformation unfold – quite literally – before our eyes!

A few weeks ago, Mike and I were cleaning up after dinner when L.J. showed us a picture he drew. He drew himself, and indeed the drawing was easily identifiable as a human. We praised his efforts profusely and thought his big grin was one of pride and accomplishment. At which point he added, “See that there? I also drew my privates!” We didn’t know what to say to that at the time, but have gotten several good laughs from it afterwards! Boys will be boys…

The other evening L.J. disappeared downstairs while Mike was reading  Hannah a bedtime story. He came back upstairs a few minutes later and said he had drawn a picture for Hannah. He drew a heart for himself and a heart for Hannah. He added an ‘L’ for Landon and an ‘H’ for Hannah. Blue sky is seen at the top of the picture, and he added “a stamp that I colored in.”

{Insert 10 heart-eye emojis here}

This evening I came across a picture he did at school this week. I was so proud of this picture! It’s a family portrait of the four of us (Hannah is on the left; and not sure who is who among the tall figures), also bordered by sky and grass. The hard-to-see yellow area includes a sunshine, an H, a heart and some other practice letters. Most significant of all: this is the first time I saw ‘Landon’ fully written out by L.J.!! Note the ‘L’ has been corrected to the proper format. Also note the H’s on the paper for, you guessed it, Hannah.

Our sweet guy has so much love for his little sister!
