“Sit quietly while I take a quick shower,” I instructed the kids one afternoon. One of them took me a little more literally than the other…
Our petite chef at school
Fun morning at the park with Uncle J.T.! We were so glad he was visiting Atlanta for a few days and we had a chance to see him.
‘Merica! Our big guy loved learning all about America and the Statue of Liberty in September! He was excited to show off his classroom during curriculum night.
Watching daddy mow the lawn and begging to go ‘sigh!’ (outside) with him.
Max the therapy dog. He walks, barks and talks. Hannah thinks he’s real and is terrified of him. So we pretend Max is real and talk about how calm and nice he is. We hold him and pet him, and encourage Hannah to do the same. She’s warming up to him as long as he’s turned off.
We really enjoyed our family reunion in Big Canoe! It was such a great opportunity to take a family photo – I figured we’d be all set for our Christmas card. I didn’t take into account that L.J. would be well done with photos by this point or that Hannah would be far more interested in the bubbling fountain that in sitting still for a photo. So this is the best we got…
Mike: Over. It.
L.J.: Classic cheese face
Hannah: Um, the fountain, people. Priorities.
Me: See mommy’s slightly forced smile? Come on people. This is not hard.
(I did get plenty of great photos that weekend, though. Post coming soon!)
L.J. enjoyed playing with the vintage Barbie dolls Aunt Kris gave to Hannah. Lest you think that’s too “girly” for him, rest assured most of the imaginative play was Ken hanging off the coffee table cliff awaiting rescue from brave Skipper.
Also, it’s important to note that Skipper and Midge were very excited to upgrade to a mid-2000s VW Beetle. Air conditioning was their favorite new feature.
Mike headed to Penn State for work and was thrilled to spend an afternoon with Bill, Liz, Margot, Calla and a few other family members. The kids and I were so bummed we missed this mini-reunion!
L.J. came down with a nasty bug and spent three days with a fever 101 or higher. Poor guy! The fever finally broke late one night, leaving L.J. in a pile of sweat. He had a rash the next couple of days. We have no idea what he had, but boy it knocked him flat.
Burning off some late afternoon energy at the park. Always a favorite with these two!
Bedtime stories and a boredom-busting fort. It was a huge hit!
Daddy’s best helper!
Elmo’s on! Elmo’s on! It’s almost time for the happy dance! Girlfriend loves Elmo these days.Halloween costume tryouts. The vintage bunny suit is way too big, unfortunately. And way too hot for a southern Halloween. It was made to Midwest standards 30 years ago for my brother. Such a loved costume!
Wedding shower celebrating Ashley’s quickly-approaching big day!
And celebrating Abby’s soon-to-arrive little boy! I was in charge of the food and it turned out really cute (I think). My semi-famous chicken salad made another appearance and received many compliments, so I suppose I should write my recipe down!
I’m particularly proud of my watermelon whale, so here’s a few more pictures of him:
And we hosted the shower not a moment too soon! Baby AJ made a healthy and safe arrival a few weeks early five days after the shower. Welcome little one!
And we wrapped up the month with our annual pumpkin patch trip:
(Pumpkin Patch pics coming soon in a separate post, as well as pictures of our fun family reunion in Big Canoe!)
