Yes, I was one among the legions of American women who rose before dawn to watch the royal wedding. And it was worth every.single.minute of lost sleep.
I was particularly drawn to it as a newlywed, since my own wedding memories are still fresh in my mind. I noticed little things, such as how Prince Charles, the Queen, Prince Phillip and Camilla all stood before the Dean of Westminster and had a “Now how exactly do we stand again?” moment. I saw the proud look on Mr. Middleton’s face, and remembered how my dad looked when he first saw me. I noticed how Prince William and Catherine gave each other reassuring looks at the altar, trying to mask a bit of nervousness.
My favorites:
Catherine’s dress was absolutely stunning. Catherine was absolutely stunning. I loved how classic and elegant it her dress was … and what a terrific example she set for women everywhere that you can look absolutely breathtaking without showing off half your body.
Her sister, Philippa, also looked amazing and I am completely in love with her gown. See below for a picture of it. Have I mentioned that I completely love this gown?
I loved how Prince Harry saw the bride before Prince William, and then gave him the “Oh wow!” look.
The picture below is absolutely classic. It makes me laugh, because I have a wedding photo where all my bridesmaids are tearfully looking on as I approach the altar … and my flower girl is staring off into space and scratching her back. The candidness of preschoolers is priceless!
Ahh weddings … and another one tomorrow! I’m so excited for my friend Ruth and her soon-to-be husband! (and thankful I don’t have to get up at 5:30 a.m. to witness it, haha)
