39 Weeks

How far along? 39 weeks, 1 day **Almost there!!**

How big is baby? His unofficial fruit size is a watermelon.

Total weight gain: 28 pounds. Mike is quite determined that he will weigh less than me by the time I deliver. So far I’ve still got him by 4 pounds. (We’re not competitive at all…)

Stretch marks? Not yet.

Exercise? I can barely move at this point, so no. I want to go for a walk since it’s supposed to encourage labor, but I can barely walk a block so doubt that’s enough to have any effect.

Sleep: The insomnia I’ve heard about has arrived. Luckily not too bad though. And for the past week I’ve been waking up about every 2 hours. I think everyone is right when they say this is good practice for the baby. At least when he arrives getting in and out of bed will be a lot easier!

Movement: Sir Squirms-a-Lot is squirming everywhere except towards the exit. He’s definitely out of room at this point, so I feel him all the time. He’s tried to stretch out sideways a few times, which hurts like the dickens.

The doctor confirmed what I had already figured out – his rump is up in my ribs and his head is very low. I can tell the latter because it occasionally feels like I have a bowling ball stuck down there…

I love that I can still feel him move so much – it’s reassuring and it’s fun to play “Guess that body part.”

Food Oddities: Still eating anything I can get my hands on. (Err…anything I find appealing at least) I’ve always been a home-cooked-dinner person, but we’ve arrived at the point of fixing whatever is quick and easy. Tacos, grilled ham and cheese, etc.

I’m curious to see what happens after the baby arrives. We rarely have takeout and my Italian husband thinks anything made by Stouffers is worse than Spam. I’ll have to update in a few weeks and see if our tune has changed.

Symptoms: If you can’t tell already, I am done. I am exhausted, very uncomfortable and very ready for baby boy to arrive.

No new symptoms this week. The Braxton Hicks contractions are becoming more frequent and more uncomfortable. But, they’re doing their job so I try not to complain about them.

What people are saying:
Most people don’t have to say anything at this point – they take one look at my stomach and their expression says it all! (It’s usually loosely interpreted as, “Holy crap how are you still walking around?!”)

I’m not sure if my stomach is really as big as everyone says it is, or if it’s just that I’m used to it at this point so it doesn’t seem as huge to me. I’m sure my small frame has a lot to do with how big it appears to people.

I was at the grocery deli counter this week, and as I was leaving a man said to me, “I wish you a healthy baby.” I thought that was such a nice thing to say.

Sweet Moments:
Mike: “Your belly button looks disgusting.”
Me: “That’s an incredibly rude thing to say!”
Mike: “I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just really weird and kind of creepy.”
Me: “That’s still rude.”
Mike: “Ok. Your belly button looks odd.
Me: Sigh…

I got an invitation to my sister-in-law’s birthday dinner. I mentioned it to Mike and he responded that he would be home that night. He then got a big smile on his face and said that he and the little man could sit on the couch and watch football bowl games together. (Aww…such a cute mental picture…)

Make room for baby: We’re as ready as we’re going to get. The cars are going up to the fire station today because I’m pretty sure we did not install the car seat bases correctly.

Hospital bag is (mostly) packed, complete with snacks for hubby and candy for the nurses.

I got just about everything wrapped up at work yesterday. I’m debating going in for a little while today just to wrap a few final things up.

Miss Anything? Having more energy than a sloth.

Looking forward to: Baby boy’s big debut!!!

Worst moment this week: I got rear-ended on the way home from work Thursday night. It was minor and did not jostle me at all, so very thankful for that. Just a pain giving the timing of it. My car will need a new bumper, but is fine aside from that.

Best moment this week: Learning that baby boy will be arriving this week :)
