You Don’t Say

I’m still not quite done with L.J.’s 18-month post so instead I’ll share some interesting news we received this afternoon.

For the past couple of months I’ve been lamenting L.J.’s increasing pickiness about food. He used to eat anything, now he is extremely partial to cheese and carbs. He’s not too fond of meat, fruit or vegetables.

Except that apparently we are wrong about this pickiness.

Someone is gaming the system.

I’ll give you a (big) hint who it is:

When I picked L.J. up at school today, his current teacher and his new teacher were standing together. I asked about his day, and they mentioned what he had for lunch. I asked if he is picky at school, because he is very picky at home.

They both looked at me with strange expressions – “He’s picky at home?! Landon??” They then proceeded to tell me that he “shovels” his food in at lunch, often has seconds and sometimes attempts to help a classmate join the clean plate club.

Really?? Really?!?

You have got to be kidding me.

I loaded our smart little cookie into the car, then immediately called my mom for advice. Moms always know the answers to things like this.

She gave me some suggestions and advice, and needless to say, things are going to be changing a little bit around here! Prep-ahead meals to get dinner on the table faster, healthier “tide-over” snacks and a little firmer on not being a short-order kitchen.

We’re on to you, Little Man. We know you love your carbs, but now you’ve got to make room for the healthier stuff, too!
