Mommy Pride

IMG_4241

L.J.’s parent/teacher conference was this week. The idea of a conference for a toddler seems sort of silly, but it was nice to be able to talk to his teachers one-on-one about how he’s doing, what he’s like at school, etc.

The first thing his teachers said was that he is a friend to everyone and very compassionate. They said that he is always the first one to console an upset classmate, bring someone a toy or offer to help. My mommy heart swelled with pride to hear these things! L.J.’s been sweet and affable from the day he was born, but to hear in detail what a caring heart he has was very special.

They said that L.J.’s willingness to share is somewhat unusual for his age group. He was so proud to bring his Elmo blanket into school earlier this week. His teachers said that he let them spread the blanket out on the floor and all his classmates took turns sitting with Elmo. He shared with everyone!

At this age sometimes it is hard to take a step back and see the unique and wonderful traits your child has. Parenting a toddler is not easy and it’s easy to get caught up in the frustration du jour. Today’s meeting gave me a chance to hear some of the really great things L.J. is doing.
