Hannah – 21 Weeks

IMG_0460

All four of us sit down to dinner together. Hannah sits atop the table in her Bumbo*, props her little hands on the Bumbo’s hump and swivels her head from person to person with her mouth gaping open like a baby bird. She is quite curious about food. Her teachers say she has the same reaction at school when she sees her classmates being fed.

So…drumroll…Hannah had her first taste of food on June 3!

She tasted sweet potatoes, because that’s what I had on hand. I think this picture sums up her reaction perfectly:

Sister Bear was quite a fan! She still had a bit of the tongue thrust going on, but she was trying SO hard to get the food off the spoon and into her mouth!

In other Hannah news, we’ve been working on the hip carry since she’s got pretty good head control and she’s getting better at it each day!

*Obligatory safety disclaimer: She’s only allowed to sit that way when we are sitting inches from her.

21 Weeks – Addendum

Unlike with Peter Pan, the bronchiolitis shadow that has been following Hannah around can’t be peeled off and stuffed in a drawer. She was doing better but late last weekend her symptoms returned and got progressively worse over the next few days.

Back to the doctor we went. Our pediatrician sent us to CHOA for an x-ray to rule out pneumonia and labs to check for 7 respiratory illnesses. Thankfully, only run-of-the-mill Rhinovirus came back positive.

We’re back on the breathing machine and back to saline/suction several times a day. Her doctor said her reflux may be exacerbating her symptoms, so her medicine dosage was upped and she told us to start giving her cereal a couple times a day. She said the weight of the cereal should help keep Hannah’s food down better.

It’s very, very frustrating that we can’t seem to “cure” this bronchiolitis/rhinovirus and we feel so bad for Hannah. Fingers crossed and prayers said that Sister Bear is feeling well soon!
