Free to a good home: Carrots

Do you know what carrots do? They stain your baby. They stain his clothes. They stain carpet.

My living room carpet now has three orange/yellow lily pads on it thanks to carrots. There will be no more carrot puree served at our house.

(Does anyone have a secret weapon for getting spit-up carrots out of carpet?)

Aside from the aforementioned carrots, L.J. has been doing great with food! We’ve been slowly introducing table food to him. Things that he has tried:

  • Plain Whole Milk Yogurt – I mix a little fruit puree in it and he seems to like it
  • Pasta –  I gave him some well-cooked, cut-up linguine and he could not shovel it in fast enough. (He’s had pasta a few times – a new favorite)
  • Chicken – Our first foray into meat. See below:

I was using canned chicken in a dish and set some aside to mash for him. Mixed some applesauce in. Daddy fed it to him and he was not a fan. So I tried. “Come on, L.J. – eat a bite for Mommy!” Do you know what he did? He spit it at me. Looked me straight in the face and blew raspberries with it. Naughty? Absolutely. So funny I almost peed my pants? Absolutely.

He has gotten to the point where if he sees Mike and I eating, he wants a taste of it. I’ve been trying to at least give him part of what we are eating to encourage curiosity and good eating habits. For example, the other night I let him taste the pinto beans (mashed) that were part of taco night. Last night I pulled some bread off my stromboli for him. I’ve squished up peas and given them to him.

I mentioned in a previous post that we have a high chair that clips to the table and let me say again how much we love it! We get to have family dinner time, and L.J. is easy to reach for feeding. He gets fed right along with us.

Of course, he’s also figured out some of the other benefits of his perch, such as how much fun it is to drop anything over the side of his chair. And, because of where it sits him in relation to the table, we have added a new phrase to our vocabulary: “L.J., sit up and stop trying to eat your placemat!”
