Happy Easter from the Holmes family!
We enjoyed a fun Easter weekend and especially loved seeing L.J.’s reactions to the holiday. He gave us a holiday treat by sleeping in past 7:00 Easter morning! Once we were all up, we went downstairs to see if the Easter Bunny had hopped by our house.
L.J. was delighted by his basket filled with books, blocks and bubbles. His expressions were priceless as he peered over the basket again and again, thrilled to discover the little surprises inside. Holidays are always more magical when experienced through the eyes of a child!
After breakfast we all got dressed up for church. And completely failed to take a family Easter photo. Oops. We discovered the church nursery was closed and mentally prepared ourselves for a difficult hour trying to keep L.J. contained and quiet.
Well…we got an Easter miracle! A tired L.J. + his lovie + a whole sleeve of puffs = church success!! We were shocked beyond belief that L.J. made it through mass (relatively) quietly and without trying to climb over, under or out of the pew. His favorite part was when the kneeler came down; pretty sure he thought it was a bench just for him. Once the final hymn started playing, L.J. took that as his cue to exit and preceded the processional down the aisle.
We attempted to get a few photos of L.J. in his Easter finery after church, but he was pretty much done with sitting by that point! He looks so grown up here…where did my baby go?
In the afternoon L.J. went on an Easter egg hunt. The neighbors a few streets over hosted a nice hunt for the kids. It had been rescheduled due to rain, so it worked out well for us that it wasn’t overrun with little ones far more experienced at walking. Aunt Ashley helped L.J. gather lots of eggs!
He did great until he spotted the playhouse in the yard. After that, the egg hunt was over for him. He took up residence in the little house and we – quite literally – had to drag him out of there kicking and screaming. Fortunately, the neighbor’s dogs came out to say hello and that proved a worthy distraction.
Checking out his basket of goodies:
We enjoyed a nice afternoon with Mike’s mom and sister and my brother and sister-in-law. L.J. was spoiled with attention and gifts! Dinner was something of a grand disappointment. Neither my chicken nor my potatoes came out well, so I wasn’t too happy with my cooking efforts.
By the time dinner was over, L.J. was well past done. Our social child, who generally loves being passed between family members, glued himself to my hip and cast wary glances at anyone who got too close. (Annoying since I was trying to clean up, but also made me feel so loved that he so adamantly wanted his mama!)
Once we got L.J. down for the night there was no rest for the weary, as I apparently took a spin on the Crazy Train Express by volunteering to host Easter dinner and create the class poster for teacher appreciation week. So I spent Sunday evening assembling the sixteen miniature construction paper eagles I had started the day before. I had flashbacks to many school projects of yesteryear…
