It was a big week for L.J.! Monday was his first day at his new school. To say that Mike and I were apprehensive about how it would go would be an understatement. Mike was traveling for work most of the week – which is never L.J.’s favorite thing – so we were pretty much prepared to grit our teeth and just get through it.
Well guess who surprised us all?
L.J. did amazing all week! We were blown away by how well he did and he seems to be adjusting nicely. Each morning he woke up asking to go to “new school” and play in the housekeeping center. There were very few tears in the morning too – we didn’t get through the week tear-free, but he did great overall!
We tried to prepare him for the change as best we could. Mike and I pointed out his new school each morning the week prior to the change. And his former teachers talked about it all week – making it out to be a very exciting thing. Bless them, because they were as sad to see him go as we were to move him.
At the end of his first full week he is definitely tired and a bit cranky (ok, a lot cranky) – but that’s to be expected with such a big change that he can only partially verbalize/understand. He’s still asking to “go back new school ‘morrow?” so we are hopeful that he will continue to adjust well and enjoy his new school.
And how are mommy and daddy doing? Pretty good! It was a tough week with Mike gone, but the new commute is so much better! We also like the school thus far. It’s more of a “preschool” environment, which we think will be good for L.J. and his insatiable curiosity. I think the extra learning components in the curriculum will be really good for him.
