L.J. may not realize it, but he says some pretty funny things! During our
vacation last week I took the time to jot down some of our favorites.
“No more cheese!”
– Said in response to the camera appearing
“I’m trying to!”
– L.J.’s common response to being told to stop doing something that he’s not really
inclined to stop doing. For example, “L.J. stop running across the pool deck!”
“The birds will eat it.”
- One morning he didn’t eat a rice cake on the way to school, so I crumbled it
up and threw it in the bushes saying, “The birdies will eat it!” This is now
L.J.’s response to anything that falls or is dropped on the ground.
“What’re you do-ning?”
- L.J.’s version of “Why?” asked with great frequency and pronounced in such a
cute way we almost can’t bear to correct him.
“That’s not safe!”
- I’m assuming this came from school, but it’s a common refrain when told not to
do something.
“I go shopping!”
- Makes me sound like a shopaholic, but what he really means is he wants to go
on an errand with mommy or daddy.
“M I K E! Come here!”
- So, occasionally, I resort to shouting Mike’s name when I need him urgently
and he’s not close by. L.J. has picked up on this. One night we put him down in
his crib in the condo. A few minutes later he started calling for “Daddy.” We
ignored him for a few minutes hoping he’d settle down. That’s when he screamed
the above phrase at the top of his lungs.
“Hi Mommy! Hi See-tee!”
- We have pet names for L.J. and he has started to comprehend what these are
for. At the pool last week, I was sitting off to the side and L.J. was in the
pool with daddy. He’d jump in, paddle over to the side, climb up the steps and
then get out and wave – “Hi Mommy! (wave) “Hi Sweetie!” (wave) – then carry on
with his jump – swim – repeat – routine. It was 100% adorable.
“I see Charley.”
“Charley” is actually “Harley,” a beautiful Clydesdale at Lawton Stables on HHI.
L.J. was enamored with him, though insisted his name was Charley no matter how
many times we corrected him. He talked about “Charley” and “go see big horsie” a
lot.
“Pass the Frosty back!”
On our way home, Mike got a Frosty at Wendy’s. He gave it to L.J. at one point,
who thought it was delicious and asked what it was. Mike told him it was called
a Frosty, like ice cream. Mike managed to get the Frosty back from L.J., but a
few minutes later we heard him exclaim – clear as day – “Pass the Frosty back!”
from the back seat. It was very funny to hear that come from a 2 year old!
