V is for Vomit

L.J.’s letter of the week for school is ‘V’. We learned this after reading his Friday parent notes, but didn’t realize we’d be getting a head start over the weekend.

We had a pretty great weekend set up. My parents and brother came in town, so we planned to take advantage of the beautiful fall weather with a hike and picnic at a local park. We’d fit in some grandparent/uncle playtime so I could get some much-needed cleaning done. And Sunday, after family left, we’d copy the rest of America and go to a pumpkin patch.

All of those plans came to a screeching halt at noon on Saturday when L.J. woke up from his nap, snuggled next to me on the couch and then threw up all over the place. My parents were returning from an errand and walked in to a stripped-down, very pale child with a rather stunned look on his face. Poor thing!

As for the rest of us, we made the very wise decision to watch Bear Grylls while sitting on the couch with L.J. I’m sure it’s shocking that we totally lost our appetites and didn’t end up eating lunch until 2:30. Nothing says “Let’s eat!” like a caribou carcass on TV and a vomiting child on the couch.

I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say the rest of the afternoon involved a few more “episodes” – each on a slightly grander scale than the last – and a very quiet and clingy Landon. Poor little guy felt awful. It was his first true stomach bug. Not a fun milestone at all.

The afternoon wasn’t a total wash, though. My dad and brother went down to my other brother’s house for the afternoon, while mom and I stayed back to care for Landon. We spent the afternoon going through Baby Girl’s new clothes – sorting and washing a whole lot of tiny pink garments. Knowing how crazy the end of the year is for us, I had gone ahead and purchased some new-to-me things for her. And then, much to my surprise, my co-worker gave me an enormous bag of baby clothes. My mom and I had fun sorting through everything and I was able to cross a big project off my list!

L.J. is on the mend, thankfully. It appears to have been a 24 hour bug, and we’re just hoping no one else caught his germs! He slept for 12 hours straight on Saturday night and took a 3 hour nap on Sunday. He hasn’t eaten much, but slowly started to perk back up yesterday.
