Well, it happened. I swore “second child syndrome” was not going to happen with my monthly first year updates, but life has been so busy and so many milestones have happened recently that it was easier to just combine the two months!
Personality
We set up the Christmas tree a few days after Thanksgiving, opting for our fake tree this year for ease. Daddy set it up. Three hours later, Hannah tried to climb it. And that sums up Hannah’s personality right now!
Months 10 and 11 opened up a whole new world for Sister Bear! She is fully mobile and fully into everything. Oh. My. Goodness. L.J. was curious, but by and large ignored anything that wasn’t his. Baby-proofing was done, but really not necessary. Hannah is curious and has explored every drawer, cabinet, shelf, nook and cranny she can find. “More baby-proofing” has been moved to the top of our to-do list. She’s climbed into the Tupperware cabinet, removed books from my bookshelf, pulled the blender out (multiple times), attempted to climb into the tub by herself and, as aforementioned, tried to climb the Christmas tree.
She’s a happy, social baby with just enough mischievousness to keep things interesting. Mommy, Daddy and L.J. are her tribe. New to the mix is “Kitty” and to some extent “Bunny” – two lovies we’ve given her over the past few weeks that she seems quite enamored with.
Pardon the term, but she’s perfected the “Go to Hell” glare and will level it at anyone who tells her no, takes something away from her, looks at her the wrong way or is too slow to procure a meal. Thankfully, her look is more adorable than it is malicious – though it does enable her to effectively prove her point!
Playtime
Musical toys are her absolute favorite – she loves anything that plays a tune. She’s learning how to clap to music!
She is also very enamored with L.J.’s large collection of vehicles. It’s really quite sweet to watch them sit together and play cars. Both kids are also both really into books and also enjoy reading together. I love this as you might imagine, despite the fact that because of said kids I haven’t picked up a book of my own in months…
Bathtime is the highlight of the kids’ day. We bathe them together, which works well for now. Her favorite bath toy is a blue Clinique eye makeup remover sample bottle. Completely random, but she looks for it every time she’s in the bath.
Eating
Hannah loves mealtime and loves almost every food we’ve given her. Particular favorites are spinach, black beans, macaroni and cheese, and pot roast. And peas. Oh goodness, frozen peas. She eats them constantly and we find them everywhere. Silly things roll from one end of the house to the other. She gets a combination of table food and pouches, with table food getting the leading edge.
Bottles have been a bit of a struggle. She’s rapidly losing interest in them and often doesn’t finish them. We’re trying to make sure she’s getting enough liquid and getting enough to eat.
The 10 p.m. feedings are still in play. We haven’t had much success weaning her off of them for more than a short stretch.
Sleeping
Still a great sleeper! She is in bed around 7:45 and wakes up between 6:30-7:15 (depends on how well she ate before bed). On the weekends she still takes two naps, generally preferring a long morning nap and a shorter afternoon nap. She also often takes a short cat nap late in the afternoon.

Letter to Hannah
Dear Hannah,
I hope your guardian angel is athletic, because you can’t even walk yet but are keeping him/her very busy! We seriously can’t even keep up with you! You are curious as can be, into absolutely everything and have zero fear. Mommy and Daddy may have significantly more gray hair in a year’s time…
Within these two months you have started to play with L.J., which makes him just as happy as can be. You love it when he dumps a big pile of books for you guys to look at, or when he gives you a toy to play with next to him. Neither one of you is much into sharing, so that keeps things interesting.
You adore L.J. and think his antics are much funnier than Mommy and Daddy do. I wonder what kind of mischief the two of you will cook up in a few years!
L.J. has a nickname for you that we should probably curtail, but at the moment is too cute to do anything about. He calls you “Slobber.” He means it with great affection, I promise. I will try not to remind him or you of this nickname at your senior prom or your wedding.
Hannah, next month you will be a year old. I can hardly fathom that. By turn it seems as though you were born just yesterday and you’ve been a part of our family forever. You have brought great joy to us and we love you more than words. (Even when I’ve just cleaned the playroom and in one fell swoop you dump out 3 bins of toys…)
Love,
Mommy
