These two weeks were notable for all the wrong reasons :( The week of December 5 brought 3 doctor’s visits and 1 ER visit for the kids. It was a doozy of a week and one I don’t care to repeat!
We started off with a Monday visit for Hannah, who was diagnosed with her third ear infection and another round of bronchial crud. Wednesday we took L.J. to the doctor for cold/ear issues. Thursday was Hannah’s ER visit. And Friday we got sent back to the doctor because school thought L.J. had pink eye.
As we waited for the doctor Friday, I texted my friend and said this turtle was smirking at me from the bookshelf on the wall. It just kinda summed up the week.
L.J. fortunately did not have pink eye and the doctor explained with mild irritation (at schools in general, not me) that “pink eyes due to a cold are not the same thing as pink eye.”

Thursday – Hannah’s ER Visit:
Hannah was home most of the week sick, and Mike and I switched off caring for her. Thursday she went to work with Daddy for the morning – she was quite popular with the coaches and players and had a great time!
Later that evening I gave the kids a bath and got Hannah dressed for bed. I noticed that she was wheezing, and heard a whistling sound when she breathed. It raised a red flag, so I called the on-call nurse at the pediatrician’s office. She asked a slew of questions and after I confirmed that she was breathing ok, just wheezing she asked me to hold the phone up to Hannah so she could hear her. After listening to her for a minute, she said she needed to be seen immediately.
Mike and I weren’t sure it was bad enough to warrant an ER visit, but the nurse had cautioned that taking a ‘wait and see’ approaching with an infant and breathing was not a good idea – especially at night when everyone was sleeping.
I took her to CHOA and we entered the ER into a waiting room full of miserable, wheezy babies. At least Hannah would be in good company. We were triaged very quickly and taken back to a room.
Ultimately, she was diagnosed with another bad case of bronchiolitis. I’ve seriously lost count at this point, poor little thing. We were there for several hours. She was seen by the doctor and it was determined she did not need to be admitted – but they wanted to wait awhile before we were discharged to make sure she remained stable and was well enough to go home. Hannah also got another hospital grade sinus flush and suctioning, which was not the highlight of her visit. We made it home around 1 a.m.
