The Very Last One

IMG_4083

Early this morning, I scraped the last bit of formula powder into a bottle for Hannah. I had just enough for 4 ounces, and she enjoyed her last formula bottle.

With the approval of her pediatrician, we’ve been introducing Hannah to milk over the past few weeks. The transition has been a non-issue – she likes whole milk just fine and doesn’t seem to care whether her bottle has milk or formula.

While our budget is reacting to this milestone with resounding applause, it’s somewhat of a bittersweet milestone for me. It is another reminder that the end of the ‘baby stage’ is approaching.

Just in case anyone reads this 60 years hence, in 2016 a large container of Target-brand formula costs $23.49 for 36 ounces. Reconstituted, it makes approximately 251 ounces of formula.

We went through approximately one container per week – so at 52 weeks per year, it’s about $1,200 worth of formula. Up that by a couple hundred because Hannah was on special formula for a few months.

Hmm…not feeling quite so nostalgic about the end of formula anymore!
