Oh how I love these two!
Hannah Update:
Sister Bear has been on the move for about a month and life is never going to be the same. Several examples:
- She climbed out of the counter high chair onto the middle of the counter while my back was turned. She was immensely proud of her herself.
- We have the bottom of the stairs blocked like any good parent. Pssh. She couldn’t get the gate opened, so she climbed through the side of the stairs and went straight up to the top.
- Our playroom slide is shoved to the wall unless we’re right there because Hannah thinks it’s appropriate to both walk down the slide and crawl through the hole on the side.
She climbs into, over, onto and through anything she can. The Little Tikes picnic table and both fireplace hearths are other favorite podiums.
Her communication skills are becoming more clear. She knows several baby signs and points like an intrepid explorer whenever she wants something. “Go this way Mama!” she says with her arm and finger extended.
Landon is her favorite and she’ll ask for him by name if he’s not in the room. I adore this. She still squawks “Ma-MA!” like a parrot anytime she’s not getting what she wants. I do not adore this, though I’m sure I’ll find it cute in hindsight.
Her Wubbanubs are her favorite and she now has a fourth one, a purple hippo who is still nameless. (You know you’re parents when you have these types of conversations with your spouse: “Drop off went well. Pinks is in her drawer, don’t forget it when you pick her up.”)
She is rapidly changing from baby to toddler. She still has a bit of mullet going on, but now she’s got the most precious little curls in the back. I hope they don’t go away! She’s also still our “petite” baby, wearing the same pajamas at 15 months that L.J. wore at 6 months.
Her beautiful, dimpled smile is something I will always treasure, though she’s so busy these days it’s all but impossible to capture it on camera.
She’s a Mama’s girl during the day and a Daddy’s girl at night. After school it’s usually my hip she wants and the only thing that makes her happy. When it’s late night teething pain or an empty tummy wakes her up, she loves nothing more than to snuggle on daddy’s shoulder.
She’s a happy, opinionated, feisty little girl and there is never a dull moment when she’s awake!
Landon Update:
Big changes for Landon! L.J. has moved into the Lions class at school, a bridge class he will be in until he starts Pre-K in the fall. We attempted this transition back around the holidays with zero success. Fast forward a few months and he’s taking it in stride! We’re so proud of how well he did his first week, even with a monumental change of no Baba at school for naptime.
When he told me the “no Baba” rule it about broke my heart. The sad way he quietly stated, “No more Baba” was tough enough, but coupled with the realization that he’s quickly growing up…I just can’t go there. Parents have a hard time sending their “baby” off to kindergarten and I can barely face the reality of Pre-K.
All that said, he’s handled leaving Baba at home (watching over Manny and Teddy) like a champ and we are so very proud of him for being such a big boy about this tough change!
He’s become much more independent, able to pick out his clothes and dress himself, get himself out of the bath and help with small chores around the house. He is a huge help to daddy in the mornings as they get ready for school!
L.J. loves to run errands, particular Kroger due to the race car cart involved. Really, though, he loves to run almost any errand with me. It is very sweet, and he is such a good helper in the store.
It’s pretty common to hear of preschool girls “mothering” a younger sibling…in our house, L.J. is a mini “Mr. Dad.” He’s forever telling Hannah what to do or what not to do, often using the exact same phrases Mike or I use. Nothing gives you pause like hearing your 4yo parrot not only a common phrase, but how you say it.
Landon absolutely adores his sister and is such a good big brother to her. She’s a lucky little lady!
He just completed another round of swimming lessons and daily asks when the pool is opening. In the meantime, he is content with as many playground visits as he can talk us into. (Not a hard sell; we all enjoy time outside.)
L.J. has added quite a few entries to his “LJ-isms” collection recently, and I win Mom of the Year (I know, again…) for failing to write them all down. This one is cute:
I sold some of Hannah’s baby bottles on a local mom’s exchange group. The lady who bought them left money in a bag on the porch. L.J. noticed the bill in the bag and said, “Look Mommy! Money from the president!”
He’s a happy, energetic little helper who fiercely loves his family, and there’s also never a dull moment when he’s awake!
