28 Weeks

How far along? 28 weeks, 1 day **Entering the THIRD TRIMESTER!!!**

How big is baby? About the size of an eggplant

Total weight gain: I’ve gained 16 pounds as of Monday, so I was off by a pound. However, I’m pretty sure I threw up at least a pound on Sunday, so…

Maternity clothes? Yes, and I’ve got my third trimester wardrobe all set. I’m excited to be able to wear cute clothes again. I was stuck in the nothing-fits-but-Target-t-shirts phase for too long!

Stretch marks? Not yet.

Exercise? No. I asked the doctor about it on Monday and she basically said “do what you can, but don’t push your luck.”

Sleep: I’ve actually been sleeping better recently, which I have a feeling is a cruel joke because I’ve heard sleep gets very elusive in the third trimester. But I sure will enjoy it while it lasts!

Movement: Cat-and-mouse continues to be his favorite game, and it continues to drive me crazy. (And my husband, who has the pleasure of listening to me worry about it.)

His kicks/jabs have gotten much more pronounced and even Mike has commented a few times, “Is that him kicking?!” Fortunately he has not found my ribs yet! I love feeling him move around…it is the best feeling ever.

He flipped positions on Wednesday, which was the oddest thing. I could tell that he had moved, but didn’t really see/feel him moving. Well, until he gave me the painful down there kick mentioned in Thursday’s post. However, I think that was temporary and he is right back in his “regular” transverse position.

Food Oddities: One thing to add would be breakfast pastries from Publix – never bought them before but we’ve enjoyed them a few times recently. The almond ones are our favorite.

I got perturbed with Mike the other night. He game home late from football and said he was getting food on the way. Usually that means a sandwich complete with fries that I can happily munch on. Instead he walks in with a bag from Taco Hell Bell. Not only did the house stink to high heaven, I didn’t get any fries out of it. Thumbs down!

Gender: It’s a BOY!!

Labor Signs: Nope.

Symptoms: Can we talk about pregnancy hormones for a minute? Wow. I can go from happy to mad as hell faster than you can blink an eye. I’ve gotten misty-eyed at more TV commercials than I care to admit. It’s like an emotional roller coaster some days!

I managed to fail not one, but two tests at the doctor’s on Monday. I failed the anemia test, which means I have to take an iron supplement. No surprise there.

I also failed the glucose test, which meant I got to go back and do a 3-hour fasting glucose test Friday morning. It wasn’t pleasant, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. I had to fast overnight, then chug 10 oz. of what tasted like Sprite syrup at 8:30 a.m. I had my blood drawn every hour for 3 hours. The first hour was the hardest. The other two weren’t so bad. I picked a quiet corner directly across from the bathroom (just in case!), and as long as I sat still and read my book I was ok. The doctor said I barely failed the test on Monday, so I’m pretty confident I’ll pass this 3-hour test.

What people are saying: Haven’t had a whole lot of new comments this week. The most common remarks are questions about his due date and if we have a name picked out yet.

Sweet Moments: Mike had a funny dream about the baby the other night. In his words:

It really was the funniest dream. You are freaking out because he won’t eat. He is sitting on my lap and I have a plate of food (pulled pork, mash potatoes, fries, mac and cheese), and he just starts eating it. You are yelling at me because he has no teeth (so probably a month old) and he just keeps eating and smiling and eats half the plate (no sure how, but that is why it is a dream). You just stood there in bewilderment.

Make room for baby: The BabyGap clothes I ordered the other week came in and they are super cute Smile

Miss Anything? All my cute shoes that are sitting idle on my shelf.

Looking forward to: Getting the third trimester underway! It finally feels like we are getting to the home stretch, even though we have a ways to go.

Worst/most embarrassing moment this week: Last week I said that Friday night’s heartburn episode was the worst moment of the week. I hadn’t yet gotten to Sunday.

Whatever “ick” I had last weekend seemed to let up on Sunday, but then Sunday night I was so sick it wasn’t even funny. I camped out in the bathroom for well over an hour, praying for relief while baby boy kicked away wondering what on earth was wrong with his mommy.

(If you think a “both ends” stomach bug is bad, trying having one when your midsection is occupied by a kicking watermelon.)

I’ve definitely already gone into protective mommy mode…I think I woke up every two hours that night just to check on baby boy. For once, I was thankful for his frequent nighttime kicks!

Best moment this week: Getting another good progress report at the doctor. She said his heartbeat is good and he is growing right on schedule!
