19 Weeks

19 Weeks (and technically part of 20) was huge for L.J. developmentally and definitely deserves its own post!

Ladies and Gentlemen, L.J. has found his thumb.

(Seriously, is that not the cutest picture ever??)

In the span of about a week and a half, we’ve transitioned from “Oh look, he’s sucking his thumb” to “Yep, he’s got his thumb in his mouth again!” Baby boy is so entranced that he now spits out his beloved paci at night to suck his thumb instead.

Another interesting fact? He always sucks his left thumb.

This week L.J. has also learned how to manipulate objects into his mouth without help. Good job buddy!! I ordered him two small teethers and he seems to really like them. They are small enough that he can easily grip them and get them up to his mouth. They’re made by the same company that makes Sophie the Giraffe; thankfully they are a fraction of the price. (The lime green teether in the pic below is one of them)

And, last but not least, L.J. has started to sit up with (a lot of ) assistance! He is starting to enjoy sitting up on our laps, as long as his head doesn’t bobble. That still freaks him out royally. He also spent almost 10 minutes in his new activity chair and was playing with a few of the toys on the tray. (The rainbow snake is a prop we use to help keep him stable.)

I picked the above picture because it shows off his new friend “Mini Monkey.” (Daddy named him.) It’s a Wubbanub pacifier that was gifted to L.J. He doesn’t use a Soothie pacifier, so he considers the one attached to the monkey to be a pretty great teething toy. He loves the little monkey because it’s textured and weighs nothing – easy to pick up and chew on.
