Personality/Playtime
No changes in his happy-go-lucky personality! He continues to be mellow, happy and very social. We have fortunately not experienced too much separation anxiety yet, though he does show a definite preference for mommy or daddy if he is tired and/or not feeling well.
At 10 months, L.J. enjoys:
- Musical toys, especially his workbench and VTech “farm”
- Any type of ball
- Exploring cause and effect with his toys
- His big stuffed dragon!
- Toys he can chew on, especially his Vulli teethers
L.J.’s favorite game is rolling the ball. He loves to sit with one parent and roll the ball back and forth to the other one. This game elicits many giggles and squeals of delight from L.J.!
One of L.J.’s favorite activities is going to the park. He absolutely loves the baby swing and also enjoys going down the slide. He also likes being pushed around the playground in the Little Tykes cars.
L.J. also enjoys running errands that involve shopping carts. He likes to sit “up high” in the basket and look around.
Eating
L.J.’s acid reflux is continuing. We can tell when it is happening because he will make a spit-up sound and then start swallowing. That has to taste awful. We transitioned back to regular formula once his acid reflux medicine started working, but that turned out to be a mistake and we are now back on the spit-up formula. He still drinks six ounces of formula at a time, though doesn’t always finish his bottles.
L.J. loves mealtime! He is a great eater and is not picky at all. I hope that continues! He’s had two new developments within the past couple of weeks. First, if he sees mommy or daddy eating something he wants a bite. Second, if everyone else is eating table food he wants to do the same. My non-fussy baby has sat in his highchair and screamed at the sight of baby food, only to be calm and content the moment something he can pick up is put on his placemat.
We continue to introduce new foods. This month some of the notable things he’s tried are flavored yogurt, pot roast, pork tenderloin and cheese. He seems to like veggies as much as fruits, with canned green beans being a favorite. Anything considered a carbohydrate is usually eagerly eaten, though we continue to try to limit his carb intake at the pediatrician’s advice.
Sleeping
Still sleeping like a champ at night! L.J. is usually in bed by 7:30 and wakes up between 6:15-7:00.
He’s still a catnapper at school, but naps well for us on the weekends. He typically takes 3 naps on the weekends – a long morning and afternoon nap and then a short catnap in the late afternoon.
Milestones/Firsts
L.J. has gotten adept and moving around while sitting. He can turn himself in a full circle while sitting and can also lean over and then sit back up. He pulled up for the first time this month, though he cannot pull from sitting to standing yet. He gets about halfway there.
I like to call him mini-Michael Phelps because of his tendency to roll over to a wall and then push off to launch himself in a different direction. It’s hilarious to watch!
We took our first trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden this month.
He now has six teeth – two upper, two lower and both eye teeth.
Dear L.J.,
It becomes clearer every day that you are closer to “toddler” than “baby”. I wish I could slow time down because I love the stage you are at now. You have the most charming personality and I love seeing the sparkle in your eyes when you discover something new – which is frequently! You are learning and accomplishing so much these days, but my favorite development has to be the “I want Mommy” reach. Do you know how much it warmed my heart when you first started intentionally reaching out for me? That was very special! I love you, sweet boy!
Love,
Mommy
