Festive Fourth

The long July 4th weekend was much-needed at our house! We had a wonderful holiday weekend, enjoying something social each day while still having plenty of time to catch up on chores and take a few breathers.

We had dinner with our neighbors on July 4th. Their son and L.J. are in the same class at school, and they had such a blast playing with each other! R also helped L.J. overcome his fear of the wading pool. We didn’t bother putting a suit on L.J. given his previous reactions. Well, guess who followed his friend into the pool – patriotic jon jon, sandals and all??? I didn’t take any pictures, but given the stars were two toddler boys you can bet there was some Cozy Coupe racing, dirt-throwing and general mess-making.

(I also must note that I got to hold R’s newborn sister. She is just darling, already has enough hair for a bow and at 8 weeks is still smaller than L.J. was the day he was born. Snuggling newborns = awesomeness)

Saturday afternoon we visited with Grandma for a bit, and then headed over to friends for a cookout. Good friends, good food, perfect weather – it was great! Despite having a nice grassy backyard to burn off energy, L.J. instead thought it would be more fun to climb on the woodpile. Sigh. On the flip side, he did rock an awesome pair of baby girl shades and couldn’t figure out why we were all laughing at him!

Thanks to our friend Patrick, L.J. also received his first Matchbox cars. A DeLorean and a Ferrari. Definitely his new favorite things and let the car collecting commence…

Sunday was a big day for L.J. We went to the GSU golf team end-of-year party at a beautiful house with a pool. We didn’t really factor in swimming, but L.J. saw the pool and his eyes got as big as saucers. Guess who made a Wal-Mart run for floaties and swimming attire? L.J. loved the pool and was pretty much fearless in the water. He dunked his face within minutes, coming up laughing. He and daddy had so much fun playing in the pool together!
