Landon – 19 Months

IMG_5704

Life with a 19-month old boy can be exhausting! But it’s also very rewarding and L.J.’s zest for life is infectious.

My recent L.J. Lately post summed up 19-months pretty well, but below are a few other things I want to remember.

We witnessed a new first for L.J. this month – the stink-eye. I was so shocked the first time I saw it! He seems to reserve it exclusively for the purpose of deterring anyone who requests to hold him. Yessir, separation anxiety is in full-swing at our house! I hope it’s a short-lived phase; mommy and daddy could really use a date night.

L.J. babbles constantly and also sings, though most of what he says is still rather unintelligible. He has steadily been adding new words to his vocabulary and we are pleased with his progress. He has added in a few two word phrases, notably “bye-bye car-car” and “bye dada” (a.k.a. “Goodnight Daddy!”) He has also learned to dance! It’s quite adorable.

He has a unique quirk in that he likes things in twos. If he has something in one hand, he wants the same thing in his other hand. Crackers, Matchbox cars and blocks are always handed out in a pair! Heaven help you if you go out in public and forget the other half.

I opened a big can of worms recently by enticing L.J. into the tub with the promise of bubbles. Guess who now wants a bubble bath every night?? All I have to do is say “bath” and he immediately runs for the stairs chanting “bubbles, bubbles, bubbles, bubbles!”

Speaking of the stairs, he can now scale them with astonishing speed. We are learning to be extra vigilant with securing the gate!

He still shows little to no interest in television. I know that’s a good thing, but there are times when being occupied by a 20 minute program would be so helpful! He does seem to like Bubble Guppies, which mercifully is fairly tolerable for adults as well.

The word ‘No’ is said about 600 times a day at our house. I hate constantly saying it, but how else are you going to teach a curious toddler what is or isn’t appropriate? Also, L.J. and I have this conversation on repeat:

L.J.: “Mama?”
Me: “Yes darling?”
L.J.: “Dada?” (Where’s Daddy?)
Me: “Daddy is ___”

*45 seconds later*

L.J.: “Mama?”
Me: “Yes dear?”
L.J.: “Dada?” (Where’s Daddy?)
Me: “Daddy is ___”

*45 seconds later*

L.J.: “Mama?”
Me: “Yes…”
L.J.: “Dada?” (Where’s Daddy?)
Me: “Daddy is still ___”

Etc….
