“Cupcakes”

One of L.J.’s current favorite activities is making picnics with his play food. His picnics are often enhanced by the use of my kitchenware – potholders, spatulas, etc. The other day I was in the family room feeding Hannah and I heard him rustling around in the kitchen. He came into the family room and told me to close my eyes because he was making me cupcakes.

I decide to play along with his surprise and stay in the family room. I hear him get into the hutch where I keep my baking supplies and then hear the telltale sign of cupcake wrappers.

A few more minutes pass and I notice he’s being very quiet. I ask him what he’s doing and he says, “Making cupcakes!” I ask him if he’s getting into my baking supplies and he says, “No Mommy! Just pretend!”

He gave himself away when he started self-narrating his activity and said, “And now for the sprinkles!” At that point I got up to see just what he was up to.

Well, he was indeed making me cupcakes (chocolate chips) complete with sprinkles. He was so proud of his little creation and so happy to share it with me!
