I love this picture! I was getting ready to do her “official” 3 week picture with a sign, but this one was a clear winner.
My dad dubbed week three ‘payback’ – I was not the easiest baby, and week three hasn’t been the easiest with Hannah. That sounds so polite, doesn’t it? I was a grouchy, fussy baby who spent much of my first 12 months being peeved at something. I really hope I don’t get 12 months of payback with Hannah!
We had the triumvirate of issues this week – feeding, sleeping and personality.
Feeding
Last weekend Hannah started to have issues with her bottles. She wasn’t wanting her full bottle in one sitting, was fussy after eating and would either draw her legs up or stretch them straight out. Poor thing was pretty miserable. It appeared she had some gas issues, so we switched to Dr. Brown’s bottles and they have helped immensely! I’ve given those bottles and their multiple parts the side-eye in the past but they do seem to work. As a bonus, I got to pick out the pink version, which makes me all sorts of happy.
Sleeping
On the positive side, Hannah is doing great with her nighttime sleeping! I try to time her “last” bottle around 10 p.m., and typically she will eat again at 2 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. I can’t complain a bit about that at only three weeks old.
Hannah is not doing so well with her daytime sleeping. She prefers to cat nap throughout the day versus sleep for several long stretches. Also, like her brother, she prefers to sleep in my arms. Naps in her playpen/swing/ bouncy/etc. usually aren’t successful.
Personality
Hannah is happy and content if she is being held. And really, that’s better phrased as “if and only if” she’s being held. Fussiness has been our biggest struggle in week three. Sister Bear has a 5-10 minute max before screaming if she’s not being held. There has been a lot of HGTV watching and iPad perusing this week, as it’s proven almost impossible to get anything productive done. It’s been frustrating because I’m not a “sit about” type of person.
She’s gone in the Moby wrap a few times, which she really likes, but it only gives me a hand-and-a-half because she hates having the wrap holding her head in place. I have an Ergo but she’s too small for it.
New for Week Three
As I tried many different things to keep Hannah content and happy, I discovered several things that she seems to really like. She really likes her giraffe Wubbanub paci, and will often wrap her arms around it or hold onto it. Very cute even if it’s probably just reflexes at this point!
I brought out the infant play gym (which L.J. promptly contaminated by curling up on it with his blankie, sigh) and she enjoys that in short spurts. She likes to look in the mirror and hear the music.
I’ve also discovered that she has refined taste and enjoys classical music. Ha, not really – but she does really enjoy the soft lullabies that a few of her toys make.
