L.J. Lately

L.J. has done such a great job adapting to Hannah’s arrival! He is a big fan of his little sister and is very attentive to what she’s doing or needs. We’ve been really fortunate that we haven’t had many jealous outbursts or negative behavior towards Hannah.

His behavior not related to Hannah…well, that’s a very different story. Parenting L.J. has been challenging in recent months and often tests just how far and/or how thin our patience can stretch. He doesn’t miss a thing, is a master manipulator and knows exactly how to push our buttons. His defiance is as impressive as it is infuriating. And he can change his behavior on a dime. Screaming and alligator tears magically disappear in an instant at the mention of a lost privilege or reminder of a planned activity. It is maddening, and there have been multiple times I’ve gone to bed feeling like an utter failure as a parent. He is a smart cookie, and while it will hopefully serve him well in school, at age three it leaves his parents exasperated.

That being the case, he does have plenty of good moments and good days! He is still our happy, charming son who is full of questions and curiosity about the world around him. He loves to be our “helper guy” and shows genuine concern for his family and friends.
