Personality
March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, the saying goes. The same can be said for Hannah’s personality. She’s gotten a little mellower and a little less fussy over the past couple of weeks. Sister Bear still rules the roost at the moment – it’s her way or no way – but we’re making progress toward a happier camper.
Evenings between 6-9 p.m. are excluded from the above paragraph. During those hours she wants to be held and snuggled constantly and greatly prefers that mommy be the one to do it. Naturally, I am happy to oblige. I’ll take all the sweet snuggles I can get! Mike feels a little less loved during this time, but I reassure him he will have his moment in the spotlight. After all, before Hannah was born I ranked somewhere just above Cinderella on L.J.’s list while daddy got (and still holds) the role of crown prince.
Hannah’s sharing her beautiful smiles more frequently now and reserves her sweet laugh exclusively for her brother. They’re pretty big fans of each other! L.J. would try to convince you otherwise with his occasional poking and prodding, but that’s mostly because he knows it will get an instant reaction out of us. He insists on giving Hannah a kiss before bed. Blowing a kiss or a light pat goodnight won’t do. It’s the one time of the day he isn’t steamrolling something – he climbs up on the couch ever so gently, careful not to wake her, and leans over to give her a kiss. It is so, so sweet!
Playtime
According to Hannah, lying down is for newborns. There is a whole world to see! Her current favorite “playtime” activity is sitting up and watching everyone and everything around her.
She enjoys her play mat for short stretches and really seems to enjoy several of the activity gyms at school. She also likes to watch the birds hanging above her swing, and thinks mirrors are pretty interesting.
Hannah has a favorite book! She received The Itsy Bitsy Bunny for Easter and loves to have it read to her. Or sung – it’s a short book to the tune of the ‘itsy bitsy spider’ and I’ve memorized it. She loves music! I have a few little things I sing to her and it always elicits a smile followed by a coo for more when I’m done.
Eating
Eating has continued to be a work in progress this month. We’ve started reflux medicine and changed her formula again; we’re now on formula #5. (!!) The combination seems to be helping. She’s now eating 4 ounces at most feedings, but still wanting to eat every 2 hours.
Sleeping
The upside to her constant eating during the day is that she fills up and sleeps through the night pretty consistently. I am loving her great nighttime sleep habits! Napping during the day is still inconsistent and varies each day.
Milestones/Firsts
Hannah had several first holidays this month – St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.
Our biggest milestone was my returning to work and Hannah starting school.
Developmentally, she has finally mastered sucking her thumb!
Letter to Hannah
Dear Hannah,
You are such a joy! My sweet baby girl, champion snuggler and #1 fan. We’ve loved seeing your personality start to emerge this month. Such a delightful demeanor was hiding under that newborn crankiness! You still have your moments – quite of few of them in the spirit of transparency – but when you are happy it’s just the most wonderful thing.
We are so proud of you for transitioning to school so well! I was so apprehensive and worried, but you surprised us all. You’re going a great job! You really seem to like your teachers and like watching all the business in the room around you. (Or at least what you think is busy. Your classroom is completely zen compared to your brother’s classroom!)
If your smiles were currency we’d be millionaires 10x over. They are beautiful and light up your whole face! We love it so much when you share them with us!
I could eat you up I love you so! (I don’t know what book that is from, but I say it to you a lot. It means I love you so very much!)
I love you,
Mommy
