21 Weeks

How far along? 21 weeks, 2 day

How big is baby? About the size of an pomegranate. At the doctor’s this week, we learned he weighs about a pound and is almost a food long.

Total weight gain: 11 pounds

Maternity clothes? I’ve almost grown out of my longer, non-maternity tops. I’m eagerly awaiting a delivery from OldNavy.com with some new tops I hope will fit!

I learned that our president wants to continue “jeans month” at work on an ongoing basis so long as we hit our monthly numbers. I personally prefer dressing up for work as I think it’s easier, but I have to say that was music to my ears because it’s less maternity clothing I’ll have to buy!

Stretch marks? Nope.

Exercise? This weekend my mom and I loaded baby gear in the car and I helped Mike put the crib together today. Considering I’ve been relegated to the couch for several weeks, I’m counting that as exercise.

In all serious, the doctor didn’t say I couldn’t exercise at my appointment last week. I may try a few short walks with Mike. It still takes very little to completely wear me out.

Sleep: I’ve discovered curling up with my favorite blanket works almost as well as my favorite pillow (a.k.a. Senor Squishy) – and takes up less space in the bed. Score.

Movement: He’s moving around quite a bit. It’s still pretty random – some days I feel him several times, others only once or twice. His kicks are obvious now.

Food cravings: No changes, though I am developing an affinity for small amounts of chocolate.

Food aversions: No changes – still very picky!

Gender: It’s a BOY!!

Labor Signs: Nope.

Symptoms: It depends on the day. Overall I have been doing better. I had a couple of bad days this week. It kind of follows a pattern – couple good days, couple bad days, repeat.

What people are saying: “Do you know what it is?” “How far along are you?” And from multiple people at work – “Wow! You have really popped!”

Favorite comment of the week: My dad, who said, “You don’t look as big as I thought you would” followed 30 seconds later by, “Oh nevermind. I didn’t see you from the side yet!”

Sweet Moments: Our 20 week ultrasound, where Mike and I got to see the baby again. We got confirmation that it’s a boy. Actually, that was the first thing we saw on the ultrasound. Let’s just say that he didn’t leave anything to the imagination! He was very active and we got to see him sucking his thumb. It was so cute! We also got an adorable picture of his feet.

Mike also felt the baby kick for the first time this week!

Make room for baby: It was a baby bonanza this weekend! My mom and I found some great deals at a big consignment sale (see separate post about Rhea Lana’s). I saved a lot of money going this route, which means there is plenty left in the baby budget for the Pottery Barn bedding set I’ve had my eye on…yay!

Miss Anything? Around this time last year Mike and I went to the water park and had an absolute blast. We decided to make it an annual event. I’m bummed we weren’t able to go back this year, but I’m perfectly ok with the reason why!

Looking forward to: Definitely looking forward to the next phase of pregnancy, where he continues to grow and I am able to feel him more and more frequently.

Most embarrassing moment this week: I was checking in for our 20 week appointment and the receptionist told me not to leave a urine specimen. I told her I really needed to go and she told me I really needed to just hold it. So then I whispered (in a rather full waiting room) that I had to go “number 2”. She just looked at me and said, “Well, I guess if you have to go…”

It was definitely rather embarrassing, but hey, when my body says it’s time to go, I don’t mess around with that.

Best moment this week: Tie between our big ultrasound appointment and shopping at the consignment sale with my mom – both were big events this week!
