L.J. is 15 months old! At his doctor’s visit he received a perfect trifecta of 95th percentile standings, weighing in at almost 28 pounds and standing tall at 32.5 inches. Yes, he’s big. Yes, everyone comments on it.
The biggest milestone this month was first steps!! (Well, technically he was 15 months and 3 days old…but close enough.) He has not repeated this accomplishment with any sort of regularity, but he is practicing standing and balance – walking is just around the corner!
Is he interested in walking? Yes. Is he overly inclined to master this milestone? Not really. He knows he can get where he’s going much faster by crawling, so that’s his preferred method of transportation.
L.J. has been hard at work on his motor skills this month, walking behind a push toy (almost running in some cases) and learning to climb up the ladder on his slide. He is also starting to shape sort, attempting to put puzzle pieces in the right spot. He can stack two blocks on top of each other, but still prefers that we make a tall tower and let him obliterate it!
One of my favorite developments this month is an increasing interest in books. I’ve been waiting and waiting for this to happen! His big alphabet book is still his favorite.
Speaking of sitting on laps, L.J. now crawls into my lap all the time. I love it!
He also gives kisses!! It’s my favorite part of the day when I ask for a kiss and he obliges.
We’ve had a hard transition to the new house in terms of sleep. L.J. doesn’t get a nap on the way home anymore and as a result we’ve experienced quite a few witching hours! His teething has also contributed to a few middle of the night slumber parties.
L.J. is becoming a lot pickier about food. If he doesn’t like something, he will pick it up and fling it behind him. He does it with such flair that it’s pretty hilarious; of course, we don’t clue him in to that fact. His favorite foods include: mandarin oranges, Craisins, PB&J, grilled cheese, fish sticks, pizza and spaghetti. And orange Gatorade. Oh my goodness. He can spot it a mile away.
He loves to be outside more than just about anything and will absolutely dissolve if we bring him inside too soon or tell him it’s not time to go outside. It’s a surefire way to elicit a head-on-the-floor tantrum.
He might be changing lovie loyalties; the verdict is still out. He still loves bunny, but has recently latched on to a soft blue blanket. (Naturally, it’s the biggest one he has.) It joins bunny, ducky, tiny Easter bunny, Aden blanket and Aden lovie in his crib. And we have learned just how children end up with a menagerie in their crib…
L.J. charms everyone he meets, and may well be acting president of the Golden Girls Shopping Fan Club. He is still reasonably laid back, though teething and budding independence have shown us that he does have a willfull streak!
Curious as ever, he wants to know what everything is and how it works. Since he doesn’t speak yet, that means he just helps himself to whatever it is he happens to be interested in. The word, “No!” is in constant circulation at our house right now.
