Wedding Bells

IMG_5156

L.J. attended his first wedding this past weekend. One of Mike’s best friends got married, and the wedding was held at a beautiful spot way (way) out in the country.

The stars aligned and Friday night was “Parents Night Out” at L.J.’s school. In laymen’s terms, this means free babysitting until 9 p.m.. That meant I was able to accompany Mike to the rehearsal and dinner for a pseudo baby-free date night. Yay!

(The rehearsal had the added bonus of alerting me to the fact that 3-inch heels were a very bad idea for this outdoorsy event.)

The wedding ceremony was very nice, though I spent most of it outside in the damp cold because somebody didn’t grasp the concept of silent participation. Despite bribing feeding him approximately 24 mini Nilla wafers, he only lasted until the bride made it down the aisle. I took him to the back and he was doing relatively ok until he spotted the baby twins’ noisy rattle. Let’s just say he didn’t take too kindly to being told he could play with it after the ceremony and we made a hurried exit out the back door. I spent the rest of the ceremony shivering and pointing out to L.J. that the other squirmy children walked to the back were at least being quiet.

The reception was a lot of fun! It was low-key, family-friendly and had plenty of delicious food cooked on-site by some of the groom’s BBQ competition buddies. (Side note: Yes, I am gradually starting to enjoy some bbq again.)

L.J. and his new friend H had lots of fun riding around in the “Here Comes The Bride” wagon. The wagon was a neat element of the wedding. The bride has twin nephews who are 8ish maybe. The groom has a 9-month old niece and nephew who are twins. The older twins pulled the younger twins down the aisle in the wagon.

Look how handsome L.J. looks in his wedding/Easter outfit! He even wore his first pair of bucs. His buddy H was looking equally dapper in his tan pants and vest. Watch out ladies – these two will be quite a catch in 20 years!

(These two are only six weeks apart. Note the size difference. Note also that the other baby is large for his age too.)

I didn’t take many pictures due to having a toddler on my hip most of the evening. (I laid on my heating pad for a long time Sunday morning!) But we did get a couple of family shots and I managed one shot of the bride and groom. They were both smiling from ear-to-ear all evening, just radiating happiness. We are so happy for them!

(I know I didn’t get a great picture showcasing L.J.’s outfit. Don’t worry! It will be making another appearance at Easter.)

The bride is known for her award-winning cheesecakes, and she made each guest a mini cheesecake as a wedding favor. Best. Wedding. Favor. Ever.
