Labor Day Weekend

I love three-day weekends even more now that I’m a working mom. A fellow blogger commented that long weekends give you enough time to get chores done and have family fun – I couldn’t agree more! We got a lot done over the weekend! It felt so good to cross a few lingering projects off the list.

We also had a lot of fun with family and friends! Good friends of ours came to stay on Friday night and it was wonderful to see them – it had been way too long! We had a great time catching up and talking about babies. They are expecting their first baby in December, right around L.J.’s birthday.

Saturday was an awesome day for college football! Go Dawgs!! Our friends are Alabama fans, but graciously helped us cheer on the Dawgs once the Tide secured their victory. Add in a delicious dinner of Taco Mac wings – what a fun night!

Sunday my brother J.T. stopped by to see us. I mean L.J. They had fun playing together, and it was quite comical to watch L.J. and his doggie cousin Ellie follow each other around the house. They were extremely curious but not entirely sure of each other!

Monday we celebrated with two of L.J.’s school buddies. Oh my goodness. These boys. They played hard. Such good friends and so dear to see first friendships blossom. And we all live in the same neighborhood! God certainly heard and answered my prayers when we moved last winter!

I made ravioli lasagna for dinner and it was a huge hit! Toddlers and adults loved it – and it was super easy to make*. We may or may not have spent 10 minutes taking pictures of shirtless little boys enjoying their first meal at the “kids table.”

And the playroom. I kid you not. It looked like a tornado blew through. I said an extra word of thanks to their teachers on Monday morning.

Two low spots to the weekend – I came down with some kind of allergies/cold/crud and completely lost my voice on Sunday. Fortunately I didn’t really feel bad…I just sounded  terrible.

And my poor minivan got sick, too. Mike had to rescue me from the Target parking lot. Drama ensued – two service shops, tow truck, high repair quotes – but in the end we got the most critical repair done for a fair price. Whew.

*If you make the lasagna – and you totally should – I followed the recipe except for two things. One, it needs more mozzarella. I prob. used 2.5 cups. Also, I used 4 oz. cream cheese and 4 oz. light sour cream instead of all cream cheese. Yes, sour cream in lasagna. Trust me on this one!
