2015 Year in Review

It’s been a busy year with lots of changes for the Holmes family!

We kicked off 2015 by buying our first house. It was a very stressful, but exciting time. Almost a year later, we are happy with our home purchase and like our pretty neighborhood but still miss living closer to the city.

Georgia State Men’s basketball earned a trip to the NCAA tournament, and garnered a lot of national attention with a sensational upset over Baylor in the first round. The extended season was great for GSU and great for Mike’s career, but was really tough on the home front.

Springtime brought the first of several beach trips, which were a highlight of L.J.’s year. He likes the beach as much as daddy! I also had the opportunity to travel to Mexico with work, which provided a nice getaway for a few days.

In May, we found out that we were expecting Baby #2! This happy news was certainly a highlight for our family! It happened sooner than we expected and it was fun to completely surprise our families with the news. We also went to Hilton Head for a week with my family, creating lots of great memories.

L.J. transitioned to a new school in June, ending our three-hours-a-day commute. It turned out to be a bigger adjustment for us than for L.J., who quickly and seamlessly settled into his new routine. He likes his school a lot and still asks if he’s going back to “new school” each morning.

July was another big month. We went to Hilton Head with Mike’s family and Mike got to go to the ESPY awards in LA. What a once-in-a-lifetime experience for him! (Of course, he’s hoping it will be more than once…)

We also shared the news with family and friends that L.J. is going to be a big brother. We created a cute Facebook announcement at the beach and turned L.J. into a human billboard for our July 4th party.

In early September we were delighted to learn that Baby Holmes is Baby Girl Holmes! Toward the end of the month, L.J. had surgery to replace his ear tubes. He had a tougher recovery this time, but was soon back to his normal self.

Fall brought cooler weather, pretty leaves and lots of outside time. We all enjoyed our annual pumpkin patch outing and L.J. was old enough to understand trick-or-treating this year. It’s debatable whether he had more fun receiving treats or helping hand them out.

November brought an unexpected hospital stay for me, where I had a kidney stone surgically removed. It was a tough month between that and Mike’s busy season kicking into full gear. Lots of stress, juggling schedules and, really, just getting through it. A calm and quiet Thanksgiving with my family was a nice way to end a difficult month.

December brought the holiday season and this year L.J. understood Santa and was so excited to meet him! We celebrated L.J.’s third birthday with a firetruck-themed party. With Baby Girl’s due date rapidly approaching, we opted for a very quiet, low-key holiday season.
