Landon is 3-months old! Each month goes by so quickly, and I’m savoring every moment with my sweet boy.

Personality
L.J. is a delight to be around! He has such a sweet disposition and is as calm as babies come. He is quite social and likes to be around/watch others. Anyone who sees him usually asks with disbelief if he is always so content. He truly is! He will happily camp out in mommy or daddy’s arms and just quietly watch everything and everyone around him. As happy as he generally is, his smiles are not ever-present. We generally have to coax them out, which makes them all the more special. However, L.J. has just recently learned to flirt. If someone comes up and coos at him, he will give this sly little smile as if to say, “Hiiii…yes, I know I’m really cute.”
Mornings are our favorite time of day, as L.J. is generally in a great mood. This is the one time of day when his smiles are continuous and he typically talks a blue streak. I love it! He can be quite the chatterbox when you get him going.
Playtime
L.J. is just starting to play a little bit. He has a couple toys that he likes to stare at and he will occasionally bat at something. His mirror, green Fauna doll and white giraffe are his favorite toys at the moment. L.J. shows almost no interest in his play mat, which is a little odd because he absolutely loves stare up at the ceiling. Ceiling fans, light fixtures, coffered ceilings…he finds them all endlessly fascinating.
L.J. has also discovered books! This really excites my inner bookworm. He likes the Sandra Boynton board books and also any book that has Elmo in it. (He’s red.) My favorite part is the way his face lights up when I read a rhyming story to him.
Eating
He is taking 5 ounces of formula every 3 hours during the day. He has moved (most nights) from two feedings to one feeding. Yay!! He normally gets up at 2:00 and then again at 5:30/6:00 for his morning bottle.
Sleeping
I’ve kind of put the nighttime schedule on hold. We’re sticking more to a consistent routine with bedtime when he’s ready, and that seems to work best. Maybe once he settles into a nap routine at school we’ll take another look at a set evening schedule. He is still getting up once per night and I think we are inching closer to sleeping through the night.
Naptime is another story. He has been very good about napping in his crib at school, but he is taking really short naps. He is slowly going for longer stretches, so he’s adjusting, which is good.
Milestones/Firsts
L.J. went on his first big trip this month, traveling to Cincinnati to meet my Grandma. We had such a great time on the trip! We also spent quite a bit of this month up in Greenville at my parents.
We got out of the house more often, selectively running errands and going places that weren’t crowded.
Our biggest milestone was the end of my maternity leave. L.J. started school and I went back to work. It’s definitely been an adjustment for both of us, but it’s going much better than I expected.
Developmentally, L.J. has started pushing up when he is on his stomach. He does a good job lifting up his head! He is also kicking his legs constantly.
Letter to L.J.
Dear L.J.,
Do you know how lucky I feel to be your mommy? All my life, from the time I was very young, I wanted to be a mom. That dream came true the day you were born. Sometimes I still can’t believe it, that you are mine for always and forever. You know I’m your mommy and that makes my heart melt a thousand times over. I can always calm you when you’re fussy, and I love when you look up at me with your big blue-gray eyes.
You are at such a sweet age right now. Your smiles are bigger and more frequent and you are quite a chatterbox! Your facial expressions are priceless…I want to capture them all so I never forget them. You are so expressive!
I want to remember it all, because I know the days are long but the years will be short. The way you love your hands. Your soft fuzzy head. Your sweet snuggles. The way you look up at me and smile when I pick you up from school. How much you love your baths. Even the way you scrunch up your face and smile when we suction your nose!
Baby boy, I love you more than words can ever say!
Love,
Mommy
Monica,
ReplyDeleteI've known you would be a wonderful "mommy" from the time you were very young...even in toddlerhood has you played with your dolls. Baby Sally was one of your favorites.
You've had lots of mothering practice over the years. You are doing a fantastic job.
My love for each of you,
Mom
