We woke up to a crisp, cool Saturday morning – the perfect temperature for L.J. to wear his new UGA wind suit. I may be biased, but he looked awesome and received lots of compliments when we ran errands.
I am now envious of toddler moms whose children are calmly enjoying the view from the shopping cart basket. L.J. is not a big fan of the shopping cart basket. He would much rather be carried around by mommy or daddy – all 31+ pounds of him – or walk like a big boy.
Oh the scene we make running errands. Or maybe I just imagine it’s a scene and no one else considers it such. Most women think he is absolutely adorable obediently following mommy through a store.
He actually does take his “walking like a big boy” role quite seriously. It typically involves L.J. with an enormously proud grin on his face with mommy keeping an eagle eye trained on him and coaxing him along. Invariably something will catch his eye and he’ll take off running. Which means mommy abandons the cart and takes off after him. Usually dodging other shoppers and carts in the process. Old ladies think it is hilarious and moms give me a “been there!” look.
I don’t let him down often – it makes me so nervous! – but every once in awhile I’ll let him experience the “freedom” of acting like a big boy when a store isn’t crowded.
