L.J.’s 2nd Birthday Party

L.J. had a blast at his birthday party! We kept it simple and low-key, inviting a half dozen toddlers and our immediate family.

No surprise, we did a Bubble Guppies themed party. Our main attraction at the party was a ball pit, which was quite a hit. Aside from that, it was all about playtime in the play room! I have so many cute pictures of the kids having fun! (Not posted for privacy reasons)

We served a toddler-friendly lunch of pears, yogurt (vanilla tinted blue), shells and cheese and chicken nuggets. Pretty sure it was the toddler equivalent of champagne and caviar, judging by the clean plates and messy faces afterwards.

L.J. is not a big fan of cake or ice cream, but he loves cookies. Publix did a masterful job of creating a sugar cookie cake with Bubble Guppies-colored icing. He was so excited about his cake! It worked out really well – all the kids enjoyed it and it was far less messy than cake.

He was spoiled with so many nice gifts from his friends and family! He was a little overwhelmed by the gift opening, but did well with it.

A note about party planning: Things were insane in the weeks leading up to his party. I did browse Pinterest, but I managed to resist the temptation of beautiful, custom-crafted party paraphernalia. The decorations came from Wal-Mart and the menu was selected mostly on the ability to prepare in advance. And you know what? I got a lot of compliments about how nice his party was! There’s still something to be said about an “old school” cake and playtime party.
