Merry & Bright: A Pre-Christmas Recap

We enjoyed a fun Christmas season this year! L.J. was intrigued by all the sparkle and shine, but I think next year the magic will really happen for him. Regardless, we all had a very festive time!

We kicked off our celebration by sharing our wish lists with Santa Claus. Aunt Ashley had a pancake breakfast with Santa at her school, and we were delighted to receive an invitation. L.J. obliged for a picture on Santa’s lap, quietly regarding the fluffy white beard and bright red suit.

After visiting Santa an order of pancakes was in order. L.J. was determined to show the elementary schoolers that he is a big kid, too, and plowed through three large pancakes.

We saw Aunt Ashley’s office and L.J. was quite sure it was decorated just for him! So many interesting things to play with and shelves to rearrange! Future Bulldawg Ph.D candidate right here, just like Aunt Ashley:

Later that same day we headed down to Chastain Park to see Santa arrive in a fire truck. (He really gets around…) We thought this would just rock L.J.’s world. Well, we missed the arrival by about 15 minutes, but the fire truck still rocked L.J.’s world. We went back to the fire truck three different times for a tour. L.J. was in absolute heaven.

In between fire truck tours, we went up to see Santa. L.J. had less than zero interest in an encore visit with the jolly man, which we were not surprised about. My favorite part of the event was the Atlanta Boys Choir performance. Beautiful! Well, the parts that I could hear in between L.J. clamoring to go sit in the fire truck again.

The following week L.J. had his Christmas program at school. We sat together with Ra-Ra and War-War’s parents, who had arrived early and secured third row seats. The large chapel was packed to standing-room-only by the time the program started.

Oh. My. Goodness. You have not seen cuteness until you have seen toddlers and preschooler’s put on a Christmas program. It was absolutely adorable. The teachers and the kids worked so hard to put it together!

Some kids were natural performers, some kids looked nervous and some kids cried. Most did just fine. One kid saw his parents and went running into the audience like a bull in Pamplona. That kid was ours.

The video we have of his reaction upon seeing us is priceless.

After the program we enjoyed cookies and juice boxes with L.J.’s school friends before heading home to start the weekend. Next up on the celebration agenda: date night!
