We enjoyed several quiet Christmas celebrations with family this year. We have a lot going on right now, so it was so nice to have a few days to just relax with our family.
I continued our annual tradition of reading The Night Before Christmas. L.J.’s not quite there yet with the story, but he enjoyed looking at the pictures and pointing out Santa Claus. What does Santa say? “Ho!” according to L.J.
Always a lark, L.J. was up well before dawn on Christmas morning. We were all a little bleary-eyed for our Christmas packages, so very few pictures were taken. Whoops.
He received many nice gifts. His play food from Santa and dollhouse from Uncle Tom and Aunt M.J. have gotten lots of attention!
We enjoyed a nice Christmas afternoon and Christmas dinner with Grandma and Aunt Ashley (who made an awesome and colorful antipasti tray!). Grandma gifted L.J. with several Pete the Cat books – he was thrilled!
I took L.J. to the Botanical Garden to see their holiday model train display. He was very interested in the trains and displays. Despite the chilly, gray weather I thought it would be a great opportunity to run off some energy. Mmm hmm. Guess who wanted to be carried the whole time? Oh well – benefit of a season pass is if we only last 45 minutes it’s no big deal!
To wrap-up Christmas we had a grown up holiday party! We hired two babysitters to come to our house to watch the three musketeers, and then the grown-ups went down the street to Ra-Ra’s house for a Christmas brunch. This was pretty much the most brilliant idea ever. We made a ton of delicious food and ate all of it. There were mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. And Cards Against Humanity. We had such a blast!!
It was also a little bittersweet. We have been blessed beyond measure this year to meet these two families in our neighborhood. We are getting ready to move, and War-War’s family is moving out of state. So our brunch was also one last hurrah for everyone to get together. I’m really going to miss Saturday morning “park at 10?” texts and comparing “Is he doing this too?” notes about development.
Somehow – I’ll chalk it up to age – the two babysitters looked calm as cucumbers when we got home. This despite three energetic toddlers who had spread a trail of toys throughout the entire first floor of our house and whose volume level could best be described as “enthusiastic.”
It’s age, right? It has to be. That’s what I’m going with.
