L.J. isn’t ready for his first haircut, but last week we (read: me) decided he was ready for his first tiny trim. The hair near the nape of his neck was getting long and was starting to alternately resemble a mullet and a rat tail.
His hair was wet, so the photo below gives you an idea but doesn’t quite capture the full effect:
So mommy decided to trim off just the tips of the mullet. Let me cut to the chase (no pun intended): mommy is not going to be wielding scissors anywhere near hair anytime soon.
He jerked his head at the precise moment I was making my tiny snip, which of course turned my tiny snip into a diagonal cut of hair. I made it worse trying to even it out.
Daddy attempted to fix the damage with his clippers. After a minute or so he proclaimed L.J.’s hairline to be nice and straight. He failed to mention it was also now positioned up near his ears.
Yep, we did that. Yep, it’s not good. Thankfully, unless he’s sitting still (which is never), it’s not too noticeable.
It will grow back of course. And his hair is straight as straight gets, so I didn’t cut off any curls or ringlets. We did, however, give him a huge ace to put in his pocket when he decides he wants some atrocious tween pop star haircut in 10 years or so.
